Donald Botterweck

NORTH NEWTON—Donald Botterweck, 95, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at Kidron Bethel in North Newton.

He was born on April 10, 1926, in Newton, the son of Joseph and Augusta Boehnke Botterweck. Don was raised and attended schools in Newton. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old.

Upon being discharged from the military in December 1949, Don returned to Newton and went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1956, he went to work for the city of Newton as a custodian until retiring in 1988 after 32 years.

Don had been a life member of both the V.F.W. and American Legion. Through the years, he enjoyed helping with the Avenue of Flags on Memorial Day. He enjoyed watching western movies.

Survivors include his two sisters, Lucile Botterweck of North Newton and Clara Mulhall of Miami, Fla., along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold.

The casket was open from 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home.

Graveside and interment services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, at Restlawn Garden of Memory just outside of Newton on U.S. Highway 50.
