OBITUARY: Della Mae Harr

Della Mae Harr, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 22, 2021, at her home in Newton. She was born March 18, 1934, in Newton, to Roy and Beulah (Smetzer) Pletcher.

Della Mae retired from Alco department store in 2007 after working there for over 26 years as a cashier/trainer. She was known for her decorative jewelry that she wore on her smock, which gave her the title of the “pin” lady. She also taught piano for more than 50 years, which was her constant joy. She enjoyed playing the piano for retirement homes around the area and would perform musical programs involving other individuals. She was a member of Meridian Baptist Church of which she enjoyed sending birthday and anniversary cards to the members, as well as baking homemade dinner rolls for some of the members of the church.

Della Mae is survived by four sons, Rick and his wife Char of Newton, Ron of Noel, Mo., Bruce and his wife Daina of Newton, and Brian and his wife Julie of Coastsville, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Billie of Newton; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 10  great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Roy and Beulah Pletcher; son Randy Harr and grandson, Ryan Harr. She also was preceded in death by brothers Billy Pletcher and Harold Pletcher, sisters Ruth Miller and Esther Moore, one grandson and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Meridian Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Scott Kliewer presiding. Visitation was from 5-9 p.m., Monday, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to BBN Radio or Meridian Baptist Church, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
