OBITUARY: Debra Denise (Arellano) Burch

Debra Denise (Arellano) Burch, 62, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home in Newton.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1960 in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Amelia (Hernandez) Arellano. Debra was raised in Newton, where she graduated from Newton High School in 1979.

She married Carl Henry Burch on May 27, 1989, in Newton. Debra loved traveling with her family, spending time with her kids, attending concerts, relaxing in her swimming pool, and enjoyed loving on her “grand puppies.” When asked, “What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received?” Debra’s response was, “That I did a good job raising my children.” She loved her family, and her pride in them shined through her. Debra had always been athletic growing up, playing basketball, powder puff football, and she bowled in a league with her dad. Later in life, she enjoyed being a part of the CrossFit community as a member of CrossFit Old 81 in Newton.

For over 30 years, Debra owned and operated a daycare out of her home. She loved the supportive role she played in her daycare children’s lives. In addition, she and her sisters were the owners of Mi Mama’s Recipes—a successful local food truck and catering service that served Mexican food at numerous events across the area.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Carl; her children, Jessica Bowman and husband Aaron, Liz Krause and husband Matt along with their sons Logan and Spencer, and Austin Burch and his wife Emily along with their son, Sonny Britt Burch.

Debra is also survived by her brothers, Michael Arellano, James (Stacy) Arellano, Richard (Lori) Arellano all of Newton, Steven (Angela) Arellano of Stewart, Florida; and her sisters, Teresa (Steve) Belgard and Stephanie (Chris) Snyder all of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
