OBITUARY: Daniel Scott West

Harvey County Now

Daniel Scott West, 60, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Daniels life was a testament to loyalty and selflessness.

He was born on November 1, 1963 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Daniel brought joy to all who knew him with his infectious laughter and amazing hugs. “Danny”, as he was known to family and friends, loved giving and sharing. He was known as the “Candy Man”, as he always had pockets of candy to hand to anyone he saw, and delighted in seeing children smile. He loved to bake and would often share with any and all. He grew up in Missouri with five sisters (Brenda Stein, Denise Bishop, Sylvia Doyle, Deanna Schirer, and Angelique Cornelius) and two brothers (William West and Donald West) He especially cherished and adored his mother, Rosemarie Miskimins, as she was his best fishing buddy. Danny had two children of his own, Kyla Denise and Daniel Scott Jr. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family meant everything to Danny. He was never happier than he was when with family and his devotion to them was unwavering. His presence brought light and laughter to family gatherings, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Throughout his life, Danny was known for his boundless generosity and compassion. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, always offering a helping hand to those in need. He had a soft heart and always a warm smile and would give anything he had without hesitations. He always put others and their needs before his own.

A welder by trade, Danny was also an Army Veteran, serving as a water purification specialist with the Missouri National Guard, Camp Clark. He was deployed to Central America several times and ultimately earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

A dedicated fisherman, Danny always found joy and relaxation in throwing a pole in the water. He especially enjoyed this with family by his side. A “professional” lottery ticket scratcher, Danny got quite a kick out of winning even a dollar. He was quick to invite you to scratch with him when you visited.

Danny’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, young and old alike. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, selflessness, and love that will continue to guide and inspire us.

Let us remember his laughter, his giving nature, and his zest for life and in doing so, a part of Danny will always be with us.

Rest in peace, Danny. All who were touched by your kind-heartedness will miss you dearly, but we find comfort in knowing you have been reunited with your favorite fishing partner.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Halstead, Ks.
