OBITUARY: Carol Penner

Carol “Sue” (Fluke) Penner’s life began on Dec. 31, 1939, the daughter of Orville and Vera “Helen” (Bourn) Fluke in Newton. The 81-year-old graduated from Whitewater High Class of 1957 and married Lawrence H. Penner on July 26, 1957, in Newton.

In addition to working as a longtime homemaker and raising four sons, Sue worked at Newell’s Corner/Newell’s Travel Center, Super Speed Print and for Lloyd Smith at S/V Tool in a number of capacities. She also worked for dear friends Jim & Denny Gronau at Big Jim’s BBQ for several years.  She enjoyed bowling, cooking and gardening.

Her loving family includes her husband of 64 years, Lawrence of Newton; sons, Michael Penner (Bob Slothower) and Thomas Penner all of Shawnee, and Jeffrey Penner and Craig Penner, both of Newton; sister, Roberta Paulson of Potwin; grandchildren, Jonathan Penner and Anyssa Pepe (David).

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Naomi “Jo” Androes.

Sue passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 19, 2021, just 12 days before her 82nd birthday.

Her family will gather with friends for viewing and visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27. Her funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, both at Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S. Main, Whitewater.
