OBITUARY: Beth E. Hershberger


Beth E. Hershberger, 65, of Hesston passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born Feb. 5, 1957, in Wooster, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Rhoda (Yoder) Hartman.

She graduated from Central Christian High School in 1975 and then continued her education at Hesston College, Hesston, graduating in 1977 with an A.A. degree in Business. Beth married Conrad Boettger in 1979, and two children became part of their family, Jenna Marie and Joel Conrad. She later married Kermit “Dee” Hershberger, and his two sons became part of their family, Seth Alan and Chad Aaron.

She was a member of the Whitestone Mennonite Church, where she played piano and accompanied for church services.

Beth worked for Hesston College, Schowalter Villa and Mennonite Central Committee, where she focused on the Commission on Overseas Missions.

Beth is survived by her husband, Dee Hershberger of the home; mother, Rhoda Hartman of Kidron, Ohio; daughter, Jenna (David) Boettger-Boring of Portland, Ore.; son, Joel Boettger (Karina Ortman) of Wichita; stepsons, Seth (Sarah) Hershberger of Newton and Chad (Tara Shae) Hershberger of Derby; eight grandchildren, Collin, Natalie, Verona, Grady, Finnegan, Kohen, Archer and Pennington; and two sisters, Barbara (Ralph) Reinford of Dalton, Ohio, and Brenda (Mark) Hartman-Sauder of Syracuse, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hartman.

Private graveside services will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Newton. Memorial services will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
