Basil 'Tony' Flores

Basil “Tony” Flores, 92, died Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home in Newton, surrounded by his family.

He was born on June 14, 1931, in Sedgwick, the son of Victor Garcia Flores and Nellie Delgado Flores. Tony was raised in the Sedgwick and Hutchinson areas. He married his longtime sweetheart on Dec. 17, 1948, in Sedgwick.

Tony and Angela moved to Newton, where he went to work for Hurst Food Company. He later went to work in Wichita for the aircraft companies Beechcraft and Cessna before retiring from Boeing.

Tony was a longtime member of the Newton Mexican American Athletic Club, where he coached both the American Coach team and Flat Land Flyers team. He enjoyed doing cabinet work.

Survivors include his three sons, Ronald Flores and Charles Lee Flores, both of Wichita, and Michael Flores and wife Shari of Newton; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Angela on July 19, 2018; sons, Rodger Steven Flores, Larry Flores and Robert Samuel Flores Sr.; brothers, Felix, Frank, Guadalupe, Lebrado, Joe, and Alex; and sisters, Lavita Armstrong, Connie Casanova and Virgina Flores.

The casket will be open at Affordable Cremations Plus, 7920 W. Kellogg Dr., Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, April 19, between 3 and 7 p.m.

Those coming to pay their respects to Tony are encouraged to wear their favorite sports shirt.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita.
