Aurello 'Willie' Nunez

Aurelio “Willie” Nunez 96, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at his Newton residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Newton to Jesus and Ventura “Terrones” Nunez.

On July 6, 1949, he married Jovita “Jo” Hernandez in Newton. They shared 64 years together and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2011.

Willie was a lifelong active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus.  Traveling was an enjoyable time for Willie. He especially enjoyed traveling in Mexico. He promised each grandkid to take them on a trip when they turned 10 years old, and many fond memories of these trips were made through the years.

With time and patience, Willie could repair anything. He ran Nunez repair in Newton for many years before his retirement. Willie made lifelong friends with many of his customers, caring for their routine home maintenance and repairs.

He is survived by his daughters Rita (Ben) Large and Maryann Locken; and sons Phillip (Kitty) Nunez and Aurelio “Willie” (Kennan) Nunez, Jr. He also is survived by his sister, Frances Gomez and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Max, and two sisters, Vita Sanchez and Isabel Alanzo.

Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Jorge Lopez, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will precede the Mass at 10 a.m. at the church. Private family inurnment will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Newton.
