Obituary: Audrey E. Hess

Audrey E. Hess, 97, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton. She was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Hooker, Okla., to Chester and Beatrix (Gorden) Witt. On July 30, 1941, she married Virgil W. Hess in Great Bend, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1986. .

Audrey was a longtime member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and until recently was teaching crocheting to the other residence and staff at Kidron.

Family was very important to Audrey, and she greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and friends. She especially enjoyed time spent with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Vivian Harms of Newton; brother Tom Witt of Salt Lake City; sister Joan Freeman of Waxahachie, Texas; grandsons Terry Harms and Daniel (Teresa) Harms, both of Newton; and great-grandchildren Danielle Harms and Wayne Harms both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and one sister.

A public committal service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 20, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Chaplain Eric Massanari presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for coffee and refreshments at Trinity Height United Methodist Church following the chapel committal.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Heights or Kidron Bethel in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
