OBITUARY: Arley L. Porter

Arley L. Porter, 88, died Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

He was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Boise, Idaho, to Archie and Ruth (Wimmer) Porter. On June 1, 1957, he married Mary Robinson and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2008.

Arley served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.

He was the owner and operator of the former American Investment Insurance Company in Newton and Peabody.

Arley was a member of the Newton American Legion and VFW posts. He enjoyed spending time playing golf, fishing and bowling. He enjoyed dancing and would go to various senior center dances in the area. His family was important to him and he looked forward to spending time with them, especially time camping at Marion reservoir.

He is survived by his son Brett Porter, daughter Jana Iniguez, sister Marietta Walla and grandson Justin Phillips.

Arley was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Verna Leckington, and brother Elvin Porter.

Graveside committal service with Navy honors will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Visitation was from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with the family receiving friends from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations in Arley’s name may be made to the donor’s choice and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
