Alan Grier passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at the age of 93 while residing at the Mount Hope Nursing Center.
He was born April 4, 1929, in rural Mount Hope to Howard and Lela (Manion) Grier.
Alan graduated from Mount Hope High School in 1947 and married Delores Cutting the same year. Delores preceded him in death in 2011.
Alan was a farmer, a Sedgwick County firefighter and a parts manager at Howard’s Inc. in Mount Hope. Later in life, he graduated from Hutchinson School of Nursing and began a new career as a registered nurse, which he practiced for 20 years.
Alan lived in the Mount Hope/Bentley area all his life and was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. He served many years on the Mount Hope School Board and also served as driver for the Mount Hope EMS department. Alan was a leading proponent for the establishment of the Mount Hope Nursing Center built in 1973 where he spent the last two month of his life.
Survivors include: Bob (Sheila) Grier of Crockett, Texas; Teresa Schultz of Mount Hope, Kansas; Nancy (Alan) Brown of Andover, Kansas; Dixie (Kent) Fisher of Burrton, Kansas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Alan was preceded in death by his wife Delores, his parents, siblings: Karol Grier, Ralph Grier and Velma Grier, daughter Juanita Tichenor, son Max Grier, son-in-law John Schultz, daughter-in-law Carol Grier, grandson Lucas Lee Fisher and great-granddaughter, Samantha Jo Grier.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
