LaVerne ‘Sonny’ Weber

SEDGWICK—LaVerne A. “Sonny” Weber, 85, died Jan. 8, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born July 20, 1935 in Herington, Kansas, to Otto H. and Esther M. (Lueker) Weber.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Bentley, Kansas.

During his career he worked as a service parts manager at Cessna Aircraft and was a broker for Remax Realty. Currently, he was a delivery driver for Docuplex Printing in retirement.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from WSU.

He was an avid fan of Shocker basketball, the Royals and the Chiefs.

During his younger days he played semipro baseball then added slo-pitch softball and bowling to his activities. He coached and managed several slo-pitch teams and won multiple national tournaments. He continued to bowl on a team up till last year.

He was also a gardener known for his asparagus and he loved to feed his birds.

His greatest joy came from family gatherings and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On May 3, 1958 he married Joyce L. Clark in Wichita; she survives of the home.

Other survivors include daughters: Tammy (Charlie) Brack, Sedgwick; Shelly (Boyce) Ingram, Halstead; Stacey Weber, Halstead; sister: Ruth Demain, Peabody; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Shaft.

Viewing will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Maize Park Cemetery, Maize. Memorials may be given to Bethany Baptist Church in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
