USD-369 interviews first superintendent candidate

BURRTON—The Burrton Board of Education interviewed Kara Schwindt for its superintendent position on Wednesday. She’s the first of two candidates to be interviewed. The other will be Friday, and that person’s name has not been released yet.

Schwindt is currently in her third year as Director of Learning Services for the Haven School District. Before that, she taught first grade in Valley Center. She also spent 10 years at Garden City in multiple positions, including special education teacher, kindergarten teacher, sixth-grade English/Language Arts teacher and literacy coach.

Schwindt’s trip to Burrton on Wednesday included a meeting with Principal Tyler Hoopes and Board Clerk Sara Durner, a tour of district facilities and the community, dinner at The Barn with the school board and a formal interview with the board in executive session.

The school district said in a press release that it selected candidates for interviews based on their fit with desired characteristics that were developed with input through an online community survey.
