The Newton School District has made the decision to indefinitely suspend on-site and off-site athletic and extracurricular activities until at least March 23.
“This is a difficult decision to make, but we believe it is the correct one to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” a release from the athletics department stated. “Just to clarify, we have not had any confirmed cases in our district.
While the district’s currently on spring break, the suspension would affect sports practices and scrimmages depending on how long it continues. The decision was made as a preemptive measure to try to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus.
The suspension will be re-evaluated March 23.
