For Harvey County Now
One person is dead after a train accident this afternoon in rural Harvey County. A farm tractor was pulling disc equipment southbound on South River Park Road, crossing railroad tracks at Southwest 24 th Street, around 3:15 p.m. today.
The tractor was struck by an oncoming train engine at the railroad tracks. The driver of the tractor, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Identification of the victim will be made available at a later time, pending notification of family. The accident derailed the train. The intersection will be closed to traffic for an undetermined about of time.
Responding units included the Burrton Fire Department, Halstead Fire/EMS, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Burrton Police Department, Halstead Police Department and the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office.
