Those nearby evacuated as crews addressed propane leak

City of Newton Emergency Crews responded to a leak from a 500-gallon propane tank at 701 S. Spencer before noon on Nov. 29.

The tank sat on the property of Forest Products, which produces building materials such as PVC and Composite Decking.

According to communication from the City of Newton, the city worked to evacuate a 1/2 mile radius around the facility. The facility sits in an area east of I-135, surrounded mostly by other industrial or commercial property. It also closed a part of S. Spencer Rd.

By 1 p.m. the leak had been dealt with, the road opened and the building turned back over to the business owners.
