Snow expected to ring in New Year

By Adam Strunk
Just after you’re done welcoming 2021, snow should start falling in Harvey County.

That’s according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service office in Wichita.

Vanessa Pearce, a meteorologist for the office said a winter storm, expected to dump between 2-5 inches on the county should move into the county early Friday, January 1st.

“Unfortunately it’s coming right at the New Year,” she said.

Further south and further east, in the Flint Hills, for instance,  the snow is expected to be replaced with up to a quarter inch of ice.

Pearce said that the location of the dividing line between snow and ice could change depending on the track of the storm, but she was relatively confident in the current forecast for Harvey County.

“For your county it will stay primarily snow,” she said.
