Schools, roads closed in Sedgwick

Ridge Road going south out of Sedgwick closed on Wednesday and remains closed Thursday morning. For part of Wednesday the only way out of town was going east on First Street.

SEDGWICK—Rain and flooding have kept City personnel busy and played havoc with school activity schedules.

Fourth Street West in front of the school flooded early on Wednesday, as did Ridge Road South of town and Madison Street in town between 1st and 4th streets.

Ridge Road heading north had water across it most of the day and was closed in the afternoon and evening. Currently, Thursday morning, Ridge Road North is passable according to City officials.

Wednesday evening Superintendent Larry Roth cancelled school for Thursday. Also cancelled were the Senior Awards Night (postponed until May 15, 7:00 p.m.) and the softball and baseball games scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Roth was optimistic about the remainder of the week.

“Unless something happened to cause the water to go back up we’ll be having school tomorrow and graduation will be as scheduled,” he said.

So far today Sedgwick has not seen any more rain.

Ridge Road north of Sedgwick had water on the road causing temporary closure on Wednesday. On Thursday morning City officials said the road was currently passable.
