If you’re heading east on U.S. Highway 50, get ready for a slow down today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., caused by a derailed train on the BNSF line.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation: One lane of a 2-mile stretch of U.S. 50 in Harvey County will be closed again today to help crews deal with a train derailment near the highway. The two-lane roadway will be down to one lane and controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert and be prepared to stop and expect some delay.
High winds caused the derailment late Saturday night and resulted in lane closures on Sunday as crews worked to load and clear the derailment. No one was injured in the derailment, and no environmental damage occurred as the train was carrying double-stacked shipping containers.
