The Newton Area Woman of the Year advisory board has announced its three honorees for 2019, Val Gleason, Lynnette Hendrickson and Christa Jahay.
The selection committee reviews various nominations of Newton Women who have contributed to the community and selects three honorees annually.
Val Gleason is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Newton Medical Center, who has also been involved in a number of community organizations and businesses including Asbury Park, The Newton Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Hospital Organization.
Christa Jahay is a co-owner of Regier Construction and has been involved with a number of projects rehabbing buildings in Newton’s downtown including the Knudsen-Monroe office and the refurbished Alexander Jewelry Building that houses Norms.
Jahay has also been involved with New Hope (Harvey County Homeless Shelter) the Newton Chamber of Commerce and the Newton Mural Fundraising project among other things.
Lynnette Hendrickson of Hendrickson Chiropractic has been involved with Riverpoint Church, local food drives, Peace Connections, health fairs and the ReNewton Project. She also supports and donates time to area soccer, softball and basketball teams.
A recognition event for the women will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Meridian Center. The organization will be awarding the first WOY Scholarship to a graduating high school female student as well.
The Newton Area Women of The Year organization has been selecting outstanding female leaders in the community since 1956.
