Moxie owners looking for buyer

By Adam Strunk

Moxie Grill and Brew Pub is for sale.

The announcement came on the restaurant and bars’ social media page, last weekend.

“Dear Moxie customers, it is with a heaviness in our heart that I need to inform everyone I am needing to spend more time with my 83-year-old dad in Wyoming,” Owner Kathy Leininger wrote, explaining that her family was selling the location.

The post said that Moxie will continue to stay open and the last day of operation under the Leininger family will take place with a party on Dec. 28.

Kathy Leininger and multiple family members were regular faces behind the bar and waiting tables during the four plus years of the family owning it.

The Leiningers transformed the location, 1420 Old Main St., into a popular spot for trivia, food, craft beer and local music. It had previously operated as Sadie’s and served as a dog bar.

The post said that already three interested parties had come forth to possibly buy the location and anyone else interested should email Leininger at

“I really would love to find the right fit for our sweet Moxie and our phenomenal employees,” Leininger wrote. “This community, our employees, our customers, and this journey has touched all of our hearts and we are so grateful to have had this opportunity.”
Newton Now reached out to Moxie by phone, but hadn’t heard back as of press time, though the location isn’t open on Mondays and Tuesdays, when the calls were made.
