Library meeting draws large crowd

Around 70 people showed up for a community visioning meeting to talk about possible design aspects for the Newton Public Library.

Two meetings were scheduled for the event on Feb. 19 one at 4 p.m. and one at 7 p.m.

The crowd looked at slides showing different kinds of designs for various library categories, including its entrance, children’s area, book display, meeting space, technology and outdoor space.

Participants wrote down what they liked about the different slides on post it notes and put their comments on larger pieces of poster board corresponding to each category.

HBM Architects, contracted for the library project will compile the feedback from the two meetings, post it and also use the feedback to help come up with a plan for a new library.
It will present that information at an April 28 joint meeting of the City Commission and Library Boards.
