Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale April 12 and 13

For Harvey County Now

On Friday afternoon, April 12, the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale (KMRS) will open the doors to the 56 th annual event. This annual two-day gathering at the State Fair Grounds in Hutchinson draws people from central Kansas, from across the state, and from places as far
away as New York City. This year’s theme is “sowing seeds of hope and seeds of love”.
All proceeds from the sale go directly to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). MCC is a global, not-
for-profit organization representing 15 Mennonite, Brethren in Christ, and Amish bodies in North
America focused on responding to humanitarian crises through direct relief, development, and
peacebuilding activities.
For the past 55 years, each April, the various Mennonite and Anabaptist churches in Kansas have come
together to hold a Relief Sale to support the work of MCC. This event continues to be the 2nd largest
event held on the State Fair Grounds in Hutchinson, with an estimated two-day attendance of 20,000. The
event includes multiple auctions, including a Quilt Auction, General Auction, Silent Auction, and many
other booths and food options. More information regarding the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale can be
found at https://kansas.mccsale.org/.
In addition to raising funds, visitors to the Sale will be able to make material contributions.
One part of the MCC ministry seeks to address humanitarian need through the direct distribution of
health, relief, education and newborn kits. These items are packaged and sent to places of need
throughout the world. Items that will be collected on site that day include infant sleepers (6-12 mo.), bath
towels (dark colored and light to medium weight), laundry soap (such as Fels Naptha or Zote brands),
shampoo (20 oz minimum) and spiral notebooks (70 sheets). These are items desperately needed by
MCC to complete and send these kits to people in need around the world.
KMRS Board Chair Jim Robb commented, “The Sale is many things. It is a way to come together as a
group to support a cause that truly makes a difference around the world. Of course, we are thrilled with
the generosity that people bring to help support the critical work of MCC worldwide. We also recognize
that each gift, no matter how small, makes a difference in someone’s life. The sale provides us with the
opportunity to give the gift of love and prayer to those less fortunate. We are a community, and we
appreciate the generosity of so many churches and volunteers coming together to support a cause bigger
than ourselves.”
The Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale will be on April 12 and 13 at the Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. To learn
