Harvey County confirms COVID-19 death, nine new cases

The Harvey County Health Department has confirmed the death of a Harvey County resident attributed to COVID-19.

The resident was a female in her 50s. This is the fourth death of a Harvey County resident with COVID-19.

Additionally, the Health Department has confirmed nine new cases of COVID-19 in Harvey County. These cases are not associated with a cluster of COVID-19 cases announced Monday at Bethel College. The confirmed cases include:

  • A female in her 40s. She is a close contact of a known active case.
  • A female in her 20s. She had known out-of-state travel.
  • A female in her 20s. She is a close contact of a known active case.
  • A female in her 20s. She is a close contact in the family unit of a known active case.
  • A female between 10-and-19 years old. Her source of exposure is unknown.
  • A female between 10-and-19 years old. This case is under investigation.
  • A female under 10 years old. Her source of exposure is unknown.
  • A male in his 20s. He is a close contact in the family unit of a known active case.
  • A male in his 20s. His source of exposure is unknown.

All of these individuals are in home isolation. The Health Department will regularly monitor the health of the individuals, as well as follow up on all close contacts.

Harvey County has had 257 COVID-19 cases to date, including 251 confirmed and six probable cases. This includes 32 of the confirmed cases previously announced in a cluster at Bethel College. Of the remaining previously announced cases, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will classify individuals able to isolate at their permanent out-of-county home residences in the case count of their respective counties. These cases will still be reflected in the active cluster total.

There are 48 known active cases in Harvey County. Three individuals remain hospitalized.
