A firework explosion resulted in severe burns and the loss of fingers for a Harvey County man on July 5.
At 3:11 p.m. according to Harvey County Sheriff Chad Gay emergency responders were dispatched to the 8000 block of N. Anderson, about 4 miles east of Hesston, to the report that a man had been injured lighting fire works.
“He was lighting mortar shells and throwing them,” Gay said. “The witnesses didn’t see exactly what happened and he didn’t get it out of his hand in time and it blew up his hand or close to it.”
The man, 53, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The explosion resulted in the man loosing all his fingers on the hand but his thumb according to a close family member.
