The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office announced it had placed two deputies on administrative leave after it was “was made aware of alleged harassment claims against two of our deputies.”
Sheriff Chad Gay said he learned last week of a possible sexual harrasmant complaint against employees working in the county jail. He said his office has been looking into the issue since then and that an official complaint had been filed Wednesday.
Gay said the complaint centered on a group text shared between three deputies who worked at the jail. He said the complaint alleged sexually suggestive texts shared in the group text messages as well as directed at an employee.
“It’s an internal thing that happened,” Gay said. “We’re going to get this taken care of.”
The names of those involved have not been released by the sheriff’s department, but they’ve been placed on administrative leave until the investigation into the complaint has been concluded.
“We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness and will respond appropriately once the investigation is completed,” the department said in the release.
