City crews begin limb pickup

For Harvey County Now

Public Works crews are collecting limbs today and tomorrow along streets that are on the slurry seal resurfacing schedule.

On Wednesday, crews will begin collection citywide on the north side of town and work toward the south. Crews will do one pass down every street to collect limbs piled at the curb.

This free pickup is for tree limbs only. If trash or other bulky items are mixed in with the limbs, they cannot be collected.

Staff anticipates the cleanup will take three to four weeks because of holiday event setup and street maintenance work that needs to occur at the same time.

Bulky item pickup calls may be delayed a week during the cleanup. Also, the Bulky Item Stickering Program that was scheduled to begin July 1 will be pushed back to Aug. 2.

If property owners want their limbs picked up sooner, they can use a free landfill coupon to haul them to the Harvey County Transfer Station. Active Newton utility customers can pick up a free landfill coupon from the utility billing office.
