A traffic stop turned into a vehicle chase and ended with a car crashed in a yard and an injured driver.
Around 3:10 p.m., according to Newton Deputy Police Chief Scott Powell, an officer pulled a vehicle with Missouri tags over for speeding in a school zone near North Ridge Elementary School.
Powell said the driver refused to identify himself as the officer made contact and drove off.
A short chase followed.
“He got to 11th and Plum, rolled, hit a couple of trees and that was the end of it,” Powell said adding that the man was breathing and alert but said he had an arm injury following the crash. “We helped him out of the car and called the ambulance.”
The man was transported by ambulance and is currently being evaluated for injuries at Newton Medical Center. We’ll update the story with the man’s name and information and with any pending charges, should he be arrested following medical treatment.
