Blue Cross Blue Shield waiving cost sharing for 60 days for Covid-19 related treatment

Cost sharing has been waived by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas for Covid-19 related treatment for the next 60 days.

Gov. Laura Kelly made the announcement during a press conference Friday afternoon.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield, a large scale health care provider, will remove cost shares at the doctors office, urgent care clinic, in the emergency room and during hospital stays for its customers if the care is related to the Covid-19 disease.

“I applaud Blue cross for taking this action. Thousands of Kansans rely on Blue Cross for their health insurance .”
Kelly said that fully insured members as well as those on medicare advantage plans will have the co-pays waived. She said self funding members can also contact the insurer to have their cost sharing waived.

She said the move also covers medically necessary diagnostic tests, telehealth and emergency room testing for the Covid-19 virus.

The agency will also allow members to fill prescriptions earlier than necessary refill dates.

“I want to thank (CEO) Matt All and his team for leadership, especially during these financially difficult times,” she said. ” This is what it means to be a Kansan.”
