Barn burns in Harvey County

A barn burned down in rural Harvey County but no one was injured in the incident.

The fire occurred around 2 p.m. September 30 in the 4800 Block of Northwest 24th Street.

When firefighters arrived the barn was fully on fire and firefighters took a defensive stance to protect a house and other outbuildings on the property.

Newton Fire/EMS stated that no occupants, pets, or firefighters were injured.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be from a fire pit that spread into surrounding grass,” Newton Fire/EMS said in a statement.
Hesston and Halstead Fire/EMS as well as the Walton Fire Department responded to the fire.
