$1.2 million project to resurface K-196 stretch in Harvey County

For Newton Now

Crews will soon start resurfacing a nearly 10-mile section of K-196 in Harvey County.

The section stretches from I-135 east to the Butler County line. The work is expected to begin June 24.

During the mill-and-overlay project, traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should slow down and be prepared to stop for the work zone.

The work is expected to be completed around July 28, depending on weather. The project is being overseen by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Cornejo & Sons is the primary contractor for the $1,209,648 project.
