Obituary: Richard Joe Winsky

Richard Joe Winsky, 93, died on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, in Newton.

Richard was born on Feb. 29, 1924, to Albert and Alice (Chapple) Winsky in Halstead.

He was a graduate of Halstead High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy as a medic. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a postmaster in Lyons.

He married DeLois Warnke on June 30, 1946. She was called home to be with the Lord on Oct. 3, 1996.

Richard is survived by his children, Rebecca and Richard Schroeder of Newton, and Richard and Nancy Winsky of Admire; nine grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLois Winsky; parents, Albert and Alice Winsky; brothers, Marlow, Albert John and Orville Winsky; sisters, Vera Mae Williams and Hesper Diringer; one stepgrandson; one great-granddaughter; one great-stepgrandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.

According to his wishes, his body has been donated to the KU Medical Center.
