Obituary: Kenneth Spoonmore

Kenneth Lyle Spoonemore Jr. 69, passed away July 1, 2018, at the V.A. Hospital in Topeka after a long illness. Kenneth was born March 7, 1949, in Pierre, S.D., the son of Kenneth Lyle and Priscilla Corinne (McCormick) Spoonemore Sr.

Kenneth joined the Army in 1966 and honorably served his country for three years, with one year served in Vietnam. He was known for his love of cars. Kenneth was an auto mechanic and spent many hours working on them, but he also enjoyed driving them. Kenneth was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother Priscilla; sister Judith L. Stoddard; son Scott Lyle Spoonemore; and daughters Jamie L. Spoonemore and Holly R. Spoonemore, as well as five grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Sr., brother George M. Spoonemore, sons Kelly Ray Spoonemore and Kenneth Lyle Spoonemore III, and sisters Linda L. Cokely and Corinne Cecile Spoonemore.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 6, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans or the V.F.W. and may be sent in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
