Obituary: Connie L. Haden

Faithful servant, Connie L. Haden, 79, joined her Lord and Savior Monday, May 28, 2018, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born June 27, 1938, in El Dorado, to Jonathan W. and Helen Lucille (Winters) Sommers.

Connie graduated from Towanda High School in 1956. Serving others and her faith were paramount in Connie’s life. She enjoyed working as an Avon Representative for over 38 years and playing the piano for 24 years at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was a member of Newton Christian Church, where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, served as a pianist, and helped with funeral dinners. Connie and her husband, Samuel, were two of the founders of the church.

On June 9, 1957, she married Samuel Lee Haden in Towanda. He died January 28, 1994.

Connie is survived by: children, Jeff Haden of Newton, Melanie Whitmore (Roger) of Hutchinson, James Haden (Kari) of Andover; grandchildren, Taryn Whitmore, Breanna Haden, Chelsea Haden, Bailey Haden; brother, Bob Sommers of Towanda; and sister, Joan Green (Merrill) of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Jean Sommers.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with Pastor Bart Horton officiating. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Newton Christian Church, 219 Southport Drive, Newton, with Pastor Doug Ingmire officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Turning Point Ministries, whose mission is to share the word of the Lord.
