Obituary: Anita Plummer

Anita Plummer, 74, longtime Newton resident, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita after a battle with cancer with her loving family nearby.

She was born July 6, 1942, in Winfield to Nicholas and Juanita Jaso. On Oct. 8, 1964, she married George Plummer Sr. He preceded her in death July 24, 2011. They raised six children together and eventually settled in Newton. Anita was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Anita is survived by her six children, Joseph Jaso Sr., Victor Jaso, Anthony Jaso, Anita-Mitzi Creekmore and husband Ray, Tricia Garcia and husband Eliberto, all of Newton, and son George Michael Jr. and wife, Darlene, of Antioch, Calif.; six brothers: John, George, Steve, Manuel, Richard and Raymond; four sisters, Victoria, Irene, Patricia and Virginia; 23 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents, Nicholas and Juanita; a brother, Robert; and two daughters-in-law, Paige and Amanda.

She took great pride in her growing family. To family and friends of the family, she was just simply known as “Grandma.” She loved to cook huge meals, play bingo, collect anything in the color red, and spend time with family.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the Rosary. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday Oct. 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Juan Garza presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be left with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
