Brendan K. Hurst

Brendan K. Hurst, 16, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at his Newton home. He was born Sept. 13, 2000, in Hutchinson.

Brendan would have been entering his junior year at Newton High School. He enjoyed computers and electronics and could often be found playing video games or reading. He was a movie fan and especially enjoyed science fiction and fantasy movies. Playing pool, card games and fishing were other pastimes Brendan enjoyed. He was a typical teenager in many ways, often asking when dinner was and what was for dinner.

As he grew up, he developed his own unique sense of humor, a sharp wit and enjoyed getting a laugh out of his family and friends. Brendan liked to spend time connecting with his close friends but was at his happiest when he was with his family and especially looked forward to spending time with his grandparents.

He will be greatly missed for those special traits and love he brought to all who knew him.

He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Schwab and her husband Rob of Newton; step-brother, Dalton Schwab, and stepsister, Halle Schwab; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Charlene Meyer of St. Joseph, Mo.; paternal grandfather, George Schwab of Turon; and paternal grandmother, Carolyn and Rick Ardolino of Hutchinson. He also is survived by several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

A memorial service was on June 20 at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with Chaplain Jason Reynolds presiding. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
