Newton and Harvey County law enforcement are currently searching for a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred early Monday evening.

After 5 p.m., Harvey County Dispatch received a report of the crime at First Bank, located at 1404 S. Kansas next to the South Dillons building.

According to Newton Police Lt. Scott Powell,  a man walked into the bank,  presented a note informing the teller of the robbery. The man did not show a weapon according to police.
Details, outside of that were in short supply as the investigation is in its early stages. However according to Sheriff Chad Gay the robber did get away with money. A surveillance photo released by police shows the man holding two stacks of currency.  Gay and Powell declined to say how much.

The robber left on foot and after investigating police believe he got into a silver passenger call in a nearby parking lot and headed northward.

Officers had earlier searched on foot outside the Walmart in case the suspect had fled southward.

The police pulled surveillance footage from the bank and have provided a photo of the suspect. They ask anyone who recognizes the man in the photo or has information on the robbery to contact the police department.

The suspect appears to be around 5-the ages of 30 and 50, under six feet tall and wearing a grey checkered button up shirt and blue jeans.
