The Newton Police Department and Harvey County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a high-speed chase ending in Saline County, according to a Harvey County Sheriff’s Office post on Facebook.
Newton officer stopped a vehicle on I-35 for a tag light violation. When the Officer approached the vehicle, the driver put the car in gear and took off. It was 3:00 in the morning as the chase went through Harvey County, McPherson County and eventually ended in Saline County.
Speeds reached 120 MPH. Even after the suspect vehicle had two tires deflated from the deployment of stop sticks, it continued to run on its rims at speeds of 115 mph. The vehicle was throwing sparks all over the interstate. The chase came to a halt on I-70 where the male driver and female passenger fled the vehicle. A male passenger in the car was taken into custody.
The male driver was eventually located and arrested, and the female is still at lodge. The vehicle they had been driving was stolen out of Arkansas.
